Chelsea and Manchester United will reportedly lock horns for 25-year-old Real Madrid utility man Federico Valverde.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Real Madrid might cash in on Federico Valverde in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old utility man has no shortage of suitors, with Chelsea and Manchester United interested in signing him ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Rise and Rise of Federico Valverde

Federico Valverde has come leaps and bounds since joining Real Madrid in July 2016. The Uruguayan international spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the CA Penarol youth division. Meanwhile, at Real Madrid, he had to bide his time before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad.

The 25-year-old is now a pivotal figure for his club and country, having turned out 55 times thus far for Uruguay. Meanwhile, he has made nearly 250 appearances thus far for Real Madrid, chipping in with 19 goals and 20 assists. But Valverde faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu heading into the summer transfer window.

The report bizarrely suggests that Real Madrid might cash in on either him, Aurelien Tchouameni or Eduardo Camavinga in the summer transfer window ahead of the expected arrival of Kylian Mbappe. While it appears difficult to believe, Chelsea and Manchester United are looking to pounce on the situation and bring Valverde to the Premier League.

Chelsea, Manchester United Want Valverde

Chelsea and Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Federico Valverde. The two Premier League outfits are in the market for midfield reinforcement, with the Blues reportedly ready to offer Reece James in the deal to sign the 55-cap Uruguayan international.

Chelsea’s interest in Valverde is surprising, considering the heavy investment in the midfield unit in 2023. But Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly pushing Chelsea to sign the Real Madrid utility man. As for Manchester United, the Red Devils need a midfielder to replace Sofyan Amrabat, who will unlikely complete a permanent move this summer.

In addition, Christian Eriksen will likely leave Manchester United, with Casemiro facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford. But it is preposterous to think Real Madrid will entertain the idea of selling Valverde. So, a move to Chelsea or Manchester United is improbable.
