Manchester United are ready to rival Chelsea and Manchester City in the pursuit of Giorgio Scalvini in the summer.

According to Fichajes, Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini will have plenty of suitors from the Premier League as the 20-year-old Italian international could decide on a switch. Manchester United are ready to rival the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for the defender, which could spark a transfer battle.

Premier League heavyweights battle for Giorgio Scalvini

Giorgio Scalvini has garnered a solid reputation in Italy, where he’s also a full international and continues to rise in stature for his performances for Atalanta. The 20-year-old Italian international has been in good form this season, helping the Bergamo club in their fight for a top-four place.

Considering many other Atalanta players in the past, Scalvini may have bigger ambitions than staying with the Bergamo club for many years to come. He will know of the massive interest coming from the Premier League, while fellow Italian giants will also keep close tabs.

Manchester City had him in their sights earlier, and there are suggestions that Pep Guardiola might target a move in the summer. Similarly, Chelsea are also keen, as the Blues hierarchy continues to look for a solid enough replacement for veteran Thiago Silva.

Now, Manchester United have joined the race for Scalvini, as they were expected to intensify their efforts during January. However, the Red Devils, like many of their other rivals, could revisit their interest in the 20-year-old Italian international in the summer.

Who will sign Scalvini?

The race could intensify as we get closer to the summer window, as many of the currently interested clubs could keep close tabs on Scalvini’s performances between now and May. The 20-year-old Italian international will also want to keep up his levels, considering there’s a place in the Italian squad for the Euros at stake.

Manchester United were reportedly quoted €40 million earlier, although if Scalvini keeps his good form, Atalanta might even consider asking for a lot more. The Bergamo side did not want to sell their star defender midway through the season in the middle of a top-four race but will consider offers in the summer.
