West Ham United are unlikely to sign Victor Boniface this month for multiple reasons, including Bayer Leverkusen’s stance.

According to Football Insider, West Ham United are unlikely to sign Victor Boniface this month. The Hammers have shown an interest in the Bayer Leverkusen attacker, who remains sidelined with an injury until March, with the Bundesliga leaders not eager to entertain approaches.

West Ham United to fail in Victor Boniface chase?

Victor Boniface moved to Bayer Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise last summer, and the transfer has been an instant hit. The Nigerian frontman has notched 24 goal contributions this season across all competitions, including 16 goals.

His form has taken Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga standings, where they are seven points clear of Bayern Munich, although they have played a game more. In any case, Xabi Alonso’s side are uninterested in entertaining any approaches for their red-hot striker this month.

While Boniface remains sidelined until March with a groin injury needing surgery, it has put off clubs like Arsenal from the chase. The striker has been one of the most prolific strikers on the continent in the first part of the season and naturally has attracted David Moyes’ attention.

Together with director Tim Stindtl, the Hammers were prepared to break their transfer record for Boniface. But this month, they barely have a chance to sign the striker. Hence, it is clear that West Ham will be unable to sign Boniface in January, although they could carry forward their interest to the summer window.

West Ham face multiple disappointments in striker search

Boniface is only one of the names they are keen on this month as David Moyes continues to scour the market for a recognised striker. With the Bayer Leverkusen star now unlikely to join the Hammers, they have already faced disappointments in other pursuits.

Aston Villa have snubbed an approach for Jhon Duran from West Ham, although they might loosen their stance if Unai Emery can sign another forward later this month. Moyes currently has only Danny Ings as a recognised striker, although Jarrod Bowen has extensively played that role in Michail Antonio’s continued absence.

There are reports that talks for Armando Broja had collapsed, as Chelsea might continue to demand a significant fee from West Ham or other suitors. Hence, with the window shrinking fast, the time is running out for Moyes to figure out a move for a new striker, something he desperately needs in this window.
