Chelsea will not entertain any offers for Levi Colwill, a target for Liverpool, with the 20-year-old being a pivotal figure under Mauricio Pochettino.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Levi Colwill is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are in the market for a centre-back in the January transfer window. But Chelsea will not listen to any offers for the 20-year-old, who remains a pivotal figure for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Rise of Levi Colwill

Levi Colwill has established a foothold in the first-team squad at Chelsea this season. A graduate of the fabled Cobham Academy, the Englishman, like many before him, had to bide his time before breaking into the senior squad at the West London club.

A loan spell at Huddersfield Town in the 2022/23 season turned Colwill’s Chelsea fate around. And injury issues at the West London club have helped his cause, and he has featured 26 times across all competitions thus far this term. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs with his exploits.

Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur were keen on signing Levi Colwill in the summer transfer window. But a move did not materialise, with the English international signing a new long-term contract with Chelsea. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in the young centre-back remains.

Liverpool Retain Interest in Levi Colwill

Liverpool’s continued interest in Colwill is understandable. Joel Matip is on the wrong side of 30, with the veteran defender entering the final six months of his contract. In addition, Joe Gomez’s fitness issues mean he will never be a dependable asset. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk is also in his thirties.

So, it behoves Liverpool to sign a centre-back who can learn the ropes from van Dijk before succeeding him as Ibrahima Konate’s long-term partner. Levi Colwill is thus a viable target for the Merseyside club. But Chelsea will not entertain any offers for the 20-year-old Englishman.

The youngster is a regular under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea. In addition, the Blues view a bright long-term future for the English international. So, Liverpool might have to look elsewhere to bolster the defensive unit this year.
