Tottenham could consider moving for Levi Colwill if they fail in pursuing Micky van de Ven as the pressure piles on Chelsea.

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham could enter the race for Levi Colwill if they fail to bring their primary defensive target. Spurs are keen on the Wolfsburg star, and if they fail to sign the Dutchman, the 20-year-old Chelsea star could become an option.

Levi Colwill could steadily become a hot prospect in the current transfer window. The 20-year-old continues to attract tremendous interest from top clubs as his Chelsea future hangs in the balance. The defender has so far refused to sign a new deal, with around two years left on his current contract.

Chelsea are coming under increasing pressure to decide on the defender. Mauricio Pochettino and the hierarchy want to keep Colwill on board and have already rejected multiple bids from Brighton to re-sign the defender.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also interested but may not cough up the rumoured £80 million or so demanded by Chelsea. The Blues would ideally like to keep him, and the 20-year-old prepares for pre-season and could make a serious decision afterwards.

His priority objective is to get regular game time, something he could achieve at Brighton. There are doubts about the same at Chelsea or Liverpool. Now, Tottenham have entered the race to pile more pressure on the Blues as they see the 20-year-old as an alternative to Micky van de Ven.

Tottenham are closing in on Micky van de Ven but fears a hijack from Liverpool. All these clubs, including Manchester City, are in the market for a left-footed centre-back, but they can turn their attention towards Colwill if they fail to bring their primary targets.

Man City are chasing Josko Gvardiol, but there are chances that the deal could collapse due to the huge asking price. Similarly, Tottenham are optimistic about Micky van de Ven, but Liverpool might also view the Dutchman as a bargain signing.

Hence, Colwill remains one of the hottest prospects in this window as clubs could scramble for his signature. Whether Tottenham have a realistic chance of signing him from Chelsea remains the question. The Blues have broken such a barrier with the recent sales of Jorginho and Kai Havertz to Arsenal, which could make Spurs optimistic.

However, Chelsea will try their best to keep hold of Colwill as they consider him vital for the future. But the defender will make the final call on a new deal, which could force the Blues to cash in on the 20-year-old Liverpool target in this window.
