Real Madrid will reportedly pursue Bayer Leverkusen full-back Alejandro Grimaldo as an alternative to top target Alphonso Davies.

According to a report by Real Madrid Exclusivo, Alejandro Grimaldo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are in the market for a left-back ahead of the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the Bayer Leverkusen star as an alternative to their top target Alejandro Grimaldo.

The Rise and Rise of Alejandro Grimaldo in the Bundesliga

Alejandro Grimaldo has taken no time to establish himself as one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga. The Spaniard joined Bayer Leverkusen in a Bosman move ahead of the 2023/24 season after his contract with Benfica expired. It was surprising that bigger clubs did not pursue him after his excellent seven-and-a-half-year stint with Portuguese giants.

But the other clubs’ loss is Bayer Leverkusen’s gain, with Die Werkself striking a coup by securing Grimaldo’s services. And he has been instrumental in the club’s rise to the top of the Bundesliga standings. The 28-year-old has contributed to 19 goals in 26 appearances thus far this season, finding the back of the net nine times while providing ten assists.

The Spanish full-back’s progress at Bayer Leverkusen has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Recent reports have linked Alejandro Grimaldo with former club Barcelona. But he is also a target for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid Want Grimaldo

Real Madrid will delve into the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. Ferland Mendy has blown hot and cold due to his fitness issues, while Fran Garcia’s best utilisation is as a backup option. In addition, while Mendy is a solid defender, he barely makes his mark in the final third.

So, Real Madrid must sign a well-rounded full-back, with Alphonso Davies emerging as the top target. But the Merengues are keeping their options open and have set their sights on Alejandro Grimaldo. The Spaniard might feel he has unfinished business in La Liga after failing to establish a foothold at FC Barcelona.

So, it will be interesting to see if the former Barcelona academy star joins Real Madrid in the summer. Bayer Leverkusen will likely demand a premium to part ways with Grimaldo. Meanwhile, Alphonso Davies will likely remain Los Blancos’ top left-back target.
