Tottenham’s move for Conor Gallagher might have collapsed after a fresh round of talks with Chelsea keen on keeping him.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham could abandon their pursuit of Conor Gallagher after their latest round of talks for the midfielder. The 23-year-old Chelsea star could remain at Stamford Bridge at least until the summer, at which point Spurs could return to the table.

Conor Gallagher to remain at Chelsea?

Conor Gallagher has become an important talking point in reports, as his Chelsea future remains up in the air. There are suggestions that the midfielder, with 18 months left on his contract, could be sold by the Blues to balance their finances amid FFP concerns.

Chelsea have set a high asking price of £50 million, which has narrowed down Tottenham as the only potential suitor at this point. Had they agreed to a sale, then the Blues would have made pure profit owing to Gallaguer’s homegrown status.

Tottenham had not lost hope in pursuit of the midfielder, but now it appears they could abandon the chase altogether. As per the report, Chelsea is now keen on keeping the 23-year-old until the summer and then making a decision on his long-term future.

The suggestion is that Spurs could return for Gallagher in the close season, as he remains one of their top targets in the market. Tottenham have remained in constant talks with the Blues over the last few weeks, but now it appears the midfielder might stay at Stamford Bridge for the time being.

Tottenham keen on a new midfielder

Ange Postecoglou will have been pleased with the club’s forays in the transfer market, considering they have already signed Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner. The Australian may seek a midfielder on high priority, considering there are doubts about Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future beyond this month.

Signing Gallagher would have let them decide on Hojbjerg’s future, although there are other midfielders on their list. Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips remains an option, while Atalanta’s Ederson also features as a target, with Newcastle United also interested in the latter.

Ideally, they would have liked to land Gallagher, but the circumstances have changed. The midfielder is also likely to choose to stay at Chelsea rather than join Tottenham or anyone else this month.
