Real Madrid and Manchester City may have to pay more than €130 million for Florian Wirtz, with the playmaker set to sign a new deal.
Sport Bild ran a story on Florian Wirtz’s future with the suggestion that the Bayer Leverkusen star might sign a new deal. His father and advisor, Hans-Joachim Wirtz, could yet ask for a release clause in the contract, which could force the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City to pay over €130 million to sign the Bundesliga target with 20 goal contributions.
Florian Wirtz, to cost over €130 million?
As per the report, Bayer Leverkusen have decided to extend Florian Wirtz’s contract rather than selling him in the summer. The club are pleased with the playmaker’s performances and could sanction a new deal which could make him the first player in the club’s history to earn almost double-digit million salary per year.
So far, his father and advisor Hans-Joachim Wirtz seems satisfied with the work in the background and appears to be leaning towards signing a new deal. He said, “Leverkusen is currently putting together something very good – Florian is a building block of it, and it makes sense if this building block remains there for a while.”
While it may sound like Wirtz is committing to a long-term future, the report clarifies that his father has still asked for a release clause in the new deal. Despite suggestions that Leverkusen want Wirtz to stay at least until 2025, the exit clause, if triggered, could see the player leave even next summer.
As per the report, the clause could be worth well over €130 million, meaning the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid will have to shell out a considerable sum to sign Wirtz. The Bundesliga target with 20 goal contributions has a massive future ahead, and there will be no shortage of suitors when he decides to quit Leverkusen.
A host of top clubs are chasing Florian Wirtz.
Manchester City and Real Madrid are considered favourites, but they are not the only clubs chasing Wirtz. Barcelona and Liverpool have already made approaches with the view of signing him in 2024. Then there’s Bayern Munich, who are always on red alert when it comes to the best of Bundesliga talents and will be in the mix for the Leverkusen star.
Real Madrid are ready to pay over €100 million as per a previous report, and if they see value in acquiring Wirtz, they could come close to that €130 million asking price. Similarly, Liverpool also considers him a big deal and could end up paying big to sign the player earmarked as a top-rated star of the future.
As for Leverkusen, they know their fate is inevitable when it comes to losing their best talents. However, there are no chances of that happening this month, as they continue to chase the Bundesliga title, with Wirtz a big part of it. In the summer, things could change depending on the offers they receive, although they would hope to agree on a new deal with their top performer.
