The reporter suggests Bayer Leverkusen do not intend to sell the 20-year-old Bundesliga talent until the end of the 2024/25 season, meaning any approaches next summer could suffer rebuttals.
Yet, Liverpool, Barcelona and many other teams are intent on singing the German talent next summer, with approaches already made. The Premier League and Spanish giants have reportedly contacted players’ representatives to find out details about a potential move.
Wirtz remains one of Bayer Leverkusen’s critical stars and prized assets for the future as he continues to help them challenge for the Bundesliga title under Xabi Alonso. He does not have a shortage of suitors, with Real Madrid reportedly willing to pay big to sign the 20-year-old Bundesliga talent.
There is a long queue in the background of clubs chasing this talent, with Manchester City and Manchester United also in the mix. Bayern are naturally in the hunt, considering Wirtz is one of the Bundesliga’s best talents. But interest from abroad could also turn his head.
The long-time success of German talents outside of the Bundesliga remains a significant factor and will come into the equation when Wirtz leaves Bayer Leverkusen. The club are intent on maximising the 20-year-old’s value as they aim at having him for next season’s Champions League campaign.
