Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly tracking the progress of 22-year-old Spanish winger Ander Barrenetxea at La Liga club Real Sociedad.

According to a report by The Sun, Ander Barrenetxea is gaining popularity in England. Arsenal and Tottenham are closely monitoring the progress of the 22-year-old winger at La Liga club Real Sociedad. Mikel Arteta and Ange Postecoglou admire the youngster and view him as an essential addition to their squads.

Who is Ander Barrenetxea?

Ander Barrenetxea is one of the best young prospects in his homeland. The San Sebastian native spent his formative years in the Basque Country before graduating from the Real Sociedad youth division. He rose through the ranks in the club’s academy before making his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in December 2018.

Since then, Barrenetxea has come leaps and bounds, becoming a mainstay in the Real Sociedad attack. He has already made nearly 150 appearances for La Real. And while the youngster’s tally of 15 goals and seven assists does not inspire much confidence, he remains a highly-rated whizkid.

The 22-year-old has captured the attention of many well-known clubs with his exploits for Real Sociedad. And the report by The Sun has revealed that Arsenal and Tottenham have been closely monitoring Ander Barrenetxea this season, having watched him in action in November and December. The two North London clubs also scouted him in the recent Basque derby with Athletic Club.

Arsenal, Tottenham Want Ander Barrenetxea

Arsenal will delve into the market for an offensive reinforcement in the summer transfer window. Mikel Arteta wants to bolster his squad’s attack ahead of the 2024/25 season as the Gunners continue to grow under his tutelage. Several attackers, including Ibrahim Salah, have thus emerged on Arsenal’s radar. But Barrenetxea is also a viable target.

As for Tottenham, the North London giants are promoting a youth-centric project under Ange Postecoglou, as is the case for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. So, Ander Barrenetxea has emerged as an option worth considering for the Tottenham boss. The Australian tactician wanted to sign Jota from Al-Ittihad and sees similarities in Barrenetxea’s game.

Real Sociedad will likely battle hard to retain Barrenetxea’s services beyond the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal and Tottenham can turn the head of the 22-year-old with their offers.
