Fulham considering January move for Vangelis Pavlidis

Fulham will reportedly look to sign AZ Alkmaar striker Vangelis Pavlidis, a target for Chelsea and Barcelona, this month.

According to a report by Evening Standard, Vangelis Pavlidis is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are in the market for a striker in the ongoing transfer window. But the AZ Alkmaar striker is also a target for Chelsea and Barcelona, with the two clubs keeping tabs on his progress.

Who is Vangelis Pavlidis?

Vangelis Pavlidis is a native of Thessaloniki and spent most of his formative years in his homeland. But the Greek international ended his youth career in Germany, graduating from the youth division at VfL Bochum. Meanwhile, he has risen in prominence since arriving in the Netherlands.

The 25-year-old grew in stature at Willem II before joining AZ Alkmaar in July 2021. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds while being among the most prolific attackers in the Eredivisie. Pavlidis has enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign thus far, amassing 22 goals and three assists in 27 appearances. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting Chelsea, Barcelona, and Fulham.

Pavlidis in Demand

Chelsea will enter the market for a striker this year, with several high-profile attackers, including Artem Dovbyk, emerging as targets. But they have also monitored the progress of Vangelis Pavlidis. And the prolific Greek striker might be a potential solution to Chelsea’s goalscoring woes.

As for Barcelona, the reigning La Liga champions are also in the market for a striker this year. Vitor Roque has arrived at the Catalan club but might take some time to establish a foothold in the first-team squad. So, with Robert Lewandowski approaching the final phase of his glittering career, Barcelona might benefit by signing a striker like Pavlidis.

Meanwhile, Fulham replaced Aleksandar Mitrovic with Raul Jimenez in the summer transfer window. But the Mexican international has not been as consistent as Mitrovic. So, it behoves Fulham to invest in a striker, with Vangelis Pavlidis emerging as a viable target.

The Greek international has also emerged on the radar of other Premier League clubs, including West Ham United. It will be interesting to see if Fulham can beat the Hammers, Chelsea, and Barcelona to land the 25-year-old prolific striker in January.
