Manchester United are reportedly considering a loan-to-buy deal to sign Donyell Malen from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Donyell Malen is the subject of interest from Manchester United. But their Financial Fair Play issues mean they will have to be innovative in the market in the January transfer window. So, the Red Devils want to sign the 24-year-old from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on a loan-to-buy deal.

The Donyell Malen Story So Far

Donyell Malen is a native of Wieringen and spent most of his formative years in the Netherlands. But he also had a few years of his youth career in England with Arsenal before he returned to his homeland by joining PSV Eindhoven. After graduating from the Dutch giants’ youth division, his stock rose considerably.

Several high-profile clubs showed interest in Malen during his stint with PSV Eindhoven. But his next adventure came in the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund securing his services in July 2021. Since then, the 24-year-old has endured a rollercoaster ride at the Signal Iduna Park.

While the Dutchman has shown flashes of brilliance, he has not performed consistently for the Black and Yellows. That has also been the case this season, with Malen managing only six goals and two assists in 23 appearances thus far. But the player’s stock remains high, with Manchester United interested in him.

Manchester United Calling?

Manchester United’s links with Donyell Malen stem from the inconsistencies of the offensive department this season. The right-wing berth, in particular, has been a problem area for the Red Devils. With Malen primarily operating from the position, he can potentially be a solution on the right flank for Manchester United.

While the 24-year-old has not been too consistent either, he will be an upgrade on Antony and Jadon Sancho. Fortunately for Manchester United, the Dutch attacker is keen on joining them. And they are stepping up their efforts to sign him, with a loan-to-buy deal on the cards.

Manchester United cannot spend heavily in the January transfer window due to some Financial Fair Play issues. So, they need to be innovative in the market, with a loan offer aligning with their requirements. But it is unclear if Borussia Dortmund will be open to such an arrangement or if the Bundesliga giants ask for a permanent transfer.
