Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly made the first move to sign 24-year-old French international Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice.

According to a report by French outlet RMC Sport, Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on signing Jean-Clair Todibo. The two Premier League heavyweights have initiated the move to sign the 24-year-old, approaching OGC Nice to inquire about the in-demand defender. He is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Jean-Clair Todibo and his Resurgence

Jean-Clair Todibo has become one of the most highly sought-after defenders in the world since joining OGC Nice from Barcelona. The Ligue 1 outfit initially signed him on loan in February 2021 before completing a permanent transfer in the subsequent summer. Since then, the French international has become a mainstay at the back for his club while breaking into his national team.

The 24-year-old has turned out 117 times thus far for OGC Nice, chipping in with two goals and one assist. Meanwhile, Todibo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham. Among these, Chelsea and Manchester United have submitted enquiries for him.

Todibo in Demand

Chelsea recently joined the race to sign the Frenchman. The Blues have invested heavily in every department in their first-team squad. But the issues persist despite the reinforcement. In addition, with Thiago Silva approaching the end of his glittering career, Chelsea will need a replacement. Jean-Clair Todibo has thus emerged as a viable target.

As for Manchester United, they will likely lose Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window. In addition, the resurgent Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30. So, it behoves Manchester United to sign a right-footed centre-back, with Todibo emerging as a viable target.

Meanwhile, Tottenham considering signing Jean-Clair Todibo this month before turning to Radu Dragusin. But the report by RMC Sport has claimed that the 24-year-old French international is a target for the North London club for the summer transfer window.

While Chelsea and Manchester United have made the first move to sign Todibo, the Frenchman will likely remain at OGC Nice beyond the January transfer window. So, a deal might have to wait until the summer.
