Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign Jean-Clair Todibo, who is also high on Tottenham and Manchester United’s shortlist.

According to Santi Aouna, Chelsea have entered the race for Jean-Clair Todibo and have opened talks to sign the 23-year-old French defender. The Blues face intense competition from Manchester United and Tottenham, with OGC Nice reluctant to sell him in January.

Chelsea enters the Jean-Clair Todibo race

Chelsea have managed to outspend every club in world football over the past 18 months and yet continue to struggle to find a balance with their squad. Mauricio Pochettino had already asked for reinforcements in January, with a striker and a defender their likely priorities.

The Blues have now entered the chase for Jean-Clair Todibo and have reportedly opened talks to sign the 23-year-old French defender. Chelsea does have good enough defenders in their ranks, but there are suggestions one or two may depart.

There are links to Ousmane Diomande, but the Sporting CP star’s huge asking price via a release clause could prove expensive. Hence, the idea of Todibo might have appealed as the 23-year-old Frenchman fits their recently adopted transfer policy.

Todibo also has a considerable upside and fits their ideas for the present and future. OGC Nice are reluctant to sell the centre-back in January, which, in addition to competition from Manchester United and Tottenham, could become problematic for Chelsea.

Tottenham and Manchester United interested in Todibo

Manchester United have seen links to Todibo since the summer, and now, with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe as a minority shareholder, there are chances of an approach. The Red Devils are eager to beat the competition for the 23-year-old, although much will depend on NIce’s asking price.

Tottenham are also keen, but in the last few days, they have shifted their attention towards Radu Dragusin. Spurs have already made the opening offer to Genoa, and as per multiple reports, an agreement could be reached soon.

Ange Postecoglou reportedly wanted a defender as early as this week, and they remain on course to achieve that with Dragusin. Once the Romanian arrives, there will be doubts about adding another defender, especially in Todibo’s price range.
