Chelsea were handed a boost in the pursuit of Jean-Clair Todibo after Tottenham shifted their focus away from the 24-year-old.
According to Team Talk, Chelsea may have a clear sight of OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo after Tottenham have seemingly pulled out of the race. The 24-year-old could move clubs in January, with Manchester United also in the mix, but the Blues may have a pole position in the hunt.
Where could Jean-Clair Todibo play next?
A host of Premier League sides have shown interest in Jean-Clair Todibo since the summer window, but there were complications then to complete a deal. The 24-year-old defender had suitors like Manchester United, among others, as clubs are ready to ramp up their chase in January.
Tottenham had him on their priority list earlier in December, but things have changed with Ange Postecoglou’s decision. The Australian manager reportedly wanted Spurs to sign a centre-back as soon as the current week, which has seen them shift their focus.
Now, Spurs are closing in on Radu Dragusin after they agreed on personal terms with the Genoa defender. There are low chances of Tottenham signing two =centre-backs in January as they could focus on strengthening other positions as well.
Manchester United also held an interest, and despite the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Old Trafford as a minority shareholder, talks have yet to begin with OGC Nice for the 24-year-old Tottenham target. In between all this, Chelsea may have got a boost in their pursuit, as the Blues could have a clear sight of Todibo.
Chelsea favourites to sign Jean-Clair Todibo?
As things stand, the Blues may have an upper hand following Tottenham’s potential withdrawal from the chase. Manchester United are also unsure about spending big on the 24-year-old in January, as they may have to reserve funds for other positions.
Chelsea have already opened talks to sign Todibo, which could see them accelerate their pursuit and come close to finding an agreement. OGC Nice are not overly keen on selling the Frenchman, but an offer close to their asking price might prove tempting.
If this move happens, Todibo could become the third centre-back in the space of 12 months to arrive at Stamford Bridge after the club signed Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi in the last two windows. Whether he is the answer to Chelsea’s defensive woes remains the question, but the 24-year-old is undoubtedly a brilliant player in his position.
