Real Madrid will reportedly scout Xavi Simons and two other RB Leipzig players in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues have three RB Leipzig players on their radar ahead of their meeting in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Mohamed Simakan and Benjamin Sesko are also on their wishlist.

The Rise of Xavi Simons

Xavi Simons has enjoyed an excellent breakthrough on the senior stage in the last two seasons. The 20-year-old was a frustrated figure during his first stint with Paris Saint-Germain, with game time coming at a premium. But his stock skyrocketed after joining PSV Eindhoven in July 2022.

But Simons’s stint with PSV did not last long, with PSG re-signing him this past summer for just €4 million due to a clause in his contract. But the Dutchman did not return to Parc des Princes, as Les Parisiens loaned him out to RB Leipzig. And he has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga this season.

The former Barcelona trainee has contributed to 15 goals in 25 appearances thus far for RB Leipzig. He has found the back of the net six times while providing nine assists. Simons’s progress at the Bundesliga club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid Calling?

Real Madrid will need a new creative midfielder in the 2024 summer transfer window amid the advancing years of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Both players are in the twilight of their respective careers and might leave Real Madrid next year. So, it behoves Los Blancos to scour the market for a long-term replacement.

Xavi Simons has thus popped up on Real Madrid’s radar. The 20-year-old has featured on their wishlist for a long time. And they will monitor the youngster in their upcoming meeting with RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. In addition, Mohamed Simakan and Benjamin Sesko have also emerged as targets for Real Madrid.

So, Real Madrid will have eyes on multiple players when the UEFA Champions League resumes next year. It will be interesting to see if Xavi Simons moves to the Santiago Bernabeu in the 2024 summer transfer window, considering Real Madrid’s strained relations with PSG.
