La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly mulling over signing 19-year-old Dutch wonderkid Xavi Simons from PSV Eindhoven this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Xavi Simons is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are pondering about pursuing the Dutch wonderkid in the summer transfer window. But he will likely remain at PSV Eindhoven heading into the 2023/24 season.

Xavi Simons spent most of his formative years with Barcelona after joining them from CD Thader Rojales. But he did not end his youth career at Spotify Camp Nou, with Paris Saint-Germain prising him away in 2019. And the 19-year-old made decent progress at the French club.

However, with chances coming few and far between, Simons left PSG last summer to join PSV Eindhoven. And the Dutch wonderkid has not looked back since then, amassing 16 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Real Madrid will likely embark on a squad overhaul in the summer transfer window. After falling considerably behind Barcelona, the Merengues need to dip their toes in the market. And they will likely bolster several positions to reclaim their place at the summit of La Liga next season.

Considering Ancelotti likes having versatile players in his squad, Xavi Simons is an attractive target. The Dutch wonderkid is primarily an attacking midfielder and can potentially replace Luka Modric. But he is equally adept at playing on the flanks, making him similar to a certain Federico Valverde.

The 16-goal prodigy has also added bagfuls of goals to his game, making him an appealing option. But Real Madrid will face stiff competition from a few Premier League clubs for the 19-year-old. In addition, Simons has recently reiterated that he is happy at PSV Eindhoven and does not wish to leave anytime soon.

That leaves Real Madrid and the other suitors with an uphill task to sign the 16-goal Dutch wonderkid this summer. But it is often hard to turn down an approach from Los Blancos. And it will be interesting to see if the reigning La Liga champions turn Simons’s head in the coming months.
