Real Madrid will reportedly scout 23-year-old versatile French defender Mohamed Simakan when they take on RB Leipzig.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mohamed Simakan is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Los Blancos will run the rule over three RB Leipzig players during the upcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash. Xavi Simons and Benjamin Sesko are also on their radar.

Who is Mohamed Simakan?

Mohamed Simakan has grown in stature since joining RB Leipzig from RC Strasbourg in July 2021. The 23-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland, turning out for six clubs in his youth career. He graduated from the Strasbourg youth division a few years ago before becoming one of the best young defenders in Ligue 1.

The versatile French defender has come leaps and bounds at RB Leipzig, becoming a mainstay at the back for the Bundesliga club. Simakan has turned out over 100 times for Die Roten Bullen, chipping in with six goals and ten assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress at the Red Bull Arena has not gone unnoticed.

Reports this year have linked Simakan with many high-profile clubs, including those from the Premier League. But Real Madrid might be his next destination, with Los Blancos considering a 2024 move for the Frenchman. And Los Blancos will run the rule over him during the upcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash with RB Leipzig next year.

Real Madrid Keen on Simakan

Simakan’s versatility makes him a viable target for Real Madrid. The 23-year-old versatile French defender can play as a centre-back and a right-back. So, with Dani Carvajal approaching the final phase of his glittering career, he can be the Spaniard’s long-term successor. In addition, he can be Eder Militao’s central defensive partner for many years.

So, Mohamed Simakan is an attractive target for Real Madrid. But the Frenchman is not the only RB Leipzig player on Los Blancos’ radar, with Xavi Simons and Benjamin Sesko also emerging as targets.

Real Madrid will thus keep a keen eye on the proceedings from different points of view in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. It will be interesting to see if Simakan becomes their top target heading into the 2024 summer transfer window.
