Serie A giants AC Milan have reportedly approached Barcelona over the possibility of signing struggling 28-year-old defender Clement Lenglet.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Clement Lenglet is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Serie A heavyweights are in the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window. They have thus approached Barcelona over the possibility of signing the struggling 28-year-old defender.

Clement Lenglet: The Fall Story

Clement Lenglet has seen his stock plummet in the last few seasons. The French international began his spell with Barcelona well, taking no time to become a regular for the club. But bouts of inconsistency affected his stature at Camp Nou, and he gradually fell in the pecking order.

The 28-year-old spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur, where he featured regularly. But the North London club did not complete a permanent deal for Lenglet in the summer transfer window. A few clubs showed interest in the Barcelona outcast before Aston Villa secured his services.

Aston Villa completed a season-long loan deal for Lenglet on Deadline Day of the summer transfer window. But the move has not worked for the Barcelona loanee, who has managed only five appearances thus far this term. So, the player’s future is uncertain heading into the January transfer window.

Another Loan Spell Beckons?

Recent reports have linked Clement Lenglet with Bayern Munich. But those stories have not progressed much in the last few days, although Barcelona might still recall the struggling 28-year-old from his loan spell at Aston Villa before sending him away again. That destination might be AC Milan.

The Serie A heavyweights are in the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window. Stefano Pioli has lost Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu to long-term injuries thus far this season. So, AC Milan will look to sign a central defender in the coming weeks, with Jakub Kiwior among the players emerging as targets. But Lenglet is also an option worth considering.

The report by Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Serie A giants have approached Barcelona to discuss the possibility of a winter move. So, it will be interesting to see how talks between the two clubs progress, as the struggling 28-year-old defender looks to resurrect his stuttering career.
