Douglas Luiz has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Aston Villa. The Brazilian international spent most of his formative years in his homeland before joining Manchester City in July 2017. But the move to the Etihad did not work out well for him, and he moved to Aston Villa in 2019.

In addition, Luiz has established a foothold in the Brazilian national team, with his stature rising on the international stage. As for the player’s exploits this season, he has amassed six goals and three assists in 20 appearances thus far.

Luiz’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs. Widespread reports have heavily linked the Aston Villa midfielder with Arsenal. But the Gunners are not alone in the race to sign him, with Manchester City considering re-signing him in January.

Manchester City might enter the market for a midfield reinforcement in the January transfer window. With Kalvin Phillips facing an uncertain future at the Etihad, the Premier League champions need a replacement. Douglas Luiz has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester City, who can re-sign him for just £15 million.

As for Arsenal, the Gunners view the 25-year-old Brazilian international as their top target for the January transfer window. Thomas Partey faces an uncertain future at the Emirates and might leave the North London club this winter. Luiz is thus an option worth considering to replace the Ghanaian international.
