West Ham United’s search for a new striker could take them back to Chelsea, as there’s a chance to sign Armando Broja.
According to Team Talk, West Ham United are set to reignite their interest in Armando Broja ahead of January. The Albanian striker could leave Chelsea if the Blues cash in and re-invest the money in a new No.9, something they have considered for some time now.
Armando Broja is yet to make a solid mark on Mauricio Pochettino, although he has not fully returned from fitness troubles. Following a prolonged absence with a severe knee injury, the 22-year-old homegrown star has again struggled to maintain fitness this season.
Summer signing Nicolas Jackson has been Chelsea’s central striker, and in the last few games, he has revived his form after a faltering start to the campaign. At the moment, Broja remains a bench option for Pochettino, but the Blues might use him as a makeweight in a deal for a top striker.
They have considered him for a part exchange deal for Ivan Toney, although other clubs are also keen on the Albanian. West Ham are also ready to revive their interest in the 22-year-old homegrown star, having decided against signing him in previous windows.
The current international break has created more problems for West Ham. Key striker Michail Antonio suffered a knee problem, although the latest scans have revealed the injury was not as bad, and the forward could return in a few weeks.
Jarrod Bowen also limped off while on England duty, and added to the already depleted Hammers attack. Moyes wanted a striker back in the summer to replace Giancluca Scamacca and did chase a few options. Fresh names like Dominic Solanke, Hugo Ekitike and Serhou Guirassy are on his list, but he would also like to explore a move for Broja.
Chelsea reportedly wants £30 million to sell their 22-year-old homegrown star, as the fee would represent 100% profit on their books. They may only get such a price in the Premier League, boosting West Ham’s chances of signing the Albanian.
A move is possible, but it will depend on Broja maintaining his fitness and Chelsea’s prioritising a new striker in January. Broja might prefer to stay at Stamford Bridge, and his long-term career will depend on how much of an impression he can leave on Pochettino between now and January.
