Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile has been linked with a move to AC Milan, but Fabrizio Romano has ruled out a transfer.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has rubbished reports linking Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile with a move to Italy. Romano believes that the only player who could leave Chelsea in January is Trevoh Chalobah.

He said on YouTube, “From what I’m hearing, the only player expected to leave Chelsea in January in that position – at centre-back – is Trevoh Chalobah. Chalobah is going to leave Chelsea in January. For Badiashile, Chelsea invested big money last year, so letting him go for cheap money is something that they are absolutely not considering.”

“It’s true that Milan could appreciate the player, scout the player, but at the moment for Chelsea the idea is very clear: the player leaving in January is Trevoh Chalobah…Badiashile [is] still absolutely part of Chelsea’s plans, and also for Milan to spend, I don’t know, €35, 40, 45 million on Badiashile is something that in January they can’t and won’t do.”

As far as Badiashile is concerned, Chelsea are not considering letting the player leave, and the Frenchman is still very much a part of their plans going forward. AC Milan would have to pay a premium in order to sign the Chelsea defender, and Romano claims that the Italian outfit might not be able to afford to do that.

Badiashile has had a difficult time at Chelsea this season, and the 22-year-old has struggled with fitness issues. The defender joined Chelsea for a fee of around €38 million in January 2023, and he will be looking to establish himself as a key player for the club in the coming seasons.

There is no doubt that the former AS Monaco defender is a quality player, and he has a big future ahead of him. Meanwhile, recent reports have also linked the highly-rated young centre-back with AC Milan’s Serie A rivals Juventus.

Chelsea are in need of defensive reinforcements, especially with Thiago Silva in its twilight years and Chalobah expected to move on.  Badiashile will be a key player for them in the coming seasons. So, it is hardly a surprise that they want to keep him at the club.

Chelsea have made a mediocre start to the season by their standards, and it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back strongly during the second half of the season. The defender has not been able to showcase his qualities since his move to Stamford Bridge so far, and he will hope to bounce back strongly and help Chelsea climb further up the table this season.

The 22-year-old arrived when Chelsea were struggling last season and the club was in need of stability. It remains to be seen whether he can recapture his peak form in the coming months. With the right coaching and guidance, the 22-year-old Frenchman could develop into a top-class Premier League defender. Mauricio Pochettino has a proven track record of nurturing young players, and he could help Badiashile fulfil his tremendous potential.
