Transfer expert Ben Jacobs insists Tottenham will look to sign a creative midfielder with box-to-box capabilities during the January window.

According to Ben Jacobs via Caught Offside, Tottenham are keen on landing a new midfielder with a creative touch ahead of the January market. The transfer expert thinks Ange Postecoglou will likely prioritise a box-to-bix midfielder to help Spurs push for the Premier League title.

Ange Postecoglou has brought in his fresh ideas at Tottenham, and the club have reaped its rewards by quickly adapting to the Australian’s methods. At the weekend, Spurs managed a convincing victory over Crystal Palace, which let them keep their two-point lead at the top of the Premier League standings.

With the season only 10 games old, there’s still a long time before Tottenham can consider themselves title contenders. While their starting eleven packs plenty of promise, there are doubts over their squad depth in several areas, something Postecoglou will look to address during the January window.

Besides needing a central defender, Postecoglou also considers attacking signings of varying degrees. For instance, they might dip into the market for a new style of midfielder in the event of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg departing.

Moreover, they might also want a new goalscorer to ease the burden on captain Heung-min Son. Mexican Santiago Gimenez remains a target alongside several other names. However, sticking to the topic of the new midfielder, transfer expert Ben Jacobs reckons Postecoglou might target a creative outlet with box-to-box capabilities.

Jacobs said, “I wonder if Spurs will move in January if they feel that they are in the mix for the Premier League or to consolidate the Champions League.”

“Son has assumed the Harry Kane role, but if his goals dry up, you start looking at Richarlison and Brennan Johnson to weigh in. That is where one more creative-minded player might be quite important to Tottenham.

“In January, I can see them going for a box-to-box midfielder, capable of playing a disciplined role in central midfield but also breaking forward and scoring, like Odegaard at Arsenal.

“Tottenham looked at Conor Gallagher but they didn’t like the price, but that kind of profile might be something Tottenham explore.”

With that in mind, the recent links to Fabian Ruiz make plenty of sense. However, signing a creative midfielder might not be Postecoglou’s priority, considering he already has James Maddison in his ranks. Bringing in a pure box-to-box midfielder is ideal for what Tottenham wants.

They are also keen on some wide attackers, with Karem Akturkoglu linked among other names, while Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho also remains a target.

Hence, come January, Postecoglou will likely want to bring in one goalscorer, a midfielder and one defender to help his team’s chances in the title race. For now, the media will bring a lot of names forward, but eventually, any decision will have to come from the club and their manager.
