Real Madrid and Tottenham are reportedly the front-runners to sign Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, whose price tag is €40-50 million.
According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Santiago Gimenez has become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market. Real Madrid and Tottenham are the leading suitors pursuing the in-form striker. Meanwhile, Feyenoord will demand €40-50 million to part ways with the Mexican international.
Santiago Gimenez has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Feyenoord last year. The 22-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the CD Cruz Azul Academy. But the move to the Netherlands has worked wonders for his career, as he has become a prolific striker in the Eredivisie.
The Mexican international was instrumental in guiding Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season. Gimenez has continued from where he left off in the early days of the 2023/24 campaign, amassing 15 goals and three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed.
Widespread reports have linked the in-form striker with several Premier League bigwigs. While Arsenal and Chelsea are keen, Tottenham might be the most serious suitor. Meanwhile, La Liga heavyweights like Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are also interested in securing Gimenez’s services. The player will cost around €40-50 million in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Tottenham chose not to sign a well-established striker following Harry Kane’s departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. While Alejo Veliz arrived from Argentina, he has yet to become a regular for the North London club. Gimenez is thus a viable target, with Tottenham reportedly ready to meet Feyenoord’s asking price to sign him.
As for Real Madrid, Los Blancos will prioritise signing Kylian Mbappe to fill Karim Benzema’s void at the Santiago Bernabeu. But recent reports have suggested that Mbappe might sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain in the coming months. Gimenez has thus emerged as a viable alternative for Real Madrid to consider.
