According to a report by TEAMtalk, Edmond Tapsoba is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Premier League heavyweights are in the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.

Edmond Tapsoba has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen. The Burkina Faso international spent most of his formative years in his homeland before arriving in Portugal in 2017. And he graduated from the Leixoes youth division half a decade ago.

The 24-year-old rose to prominence during his short stint with Vitoria Guimaraes before joining Bayer Leverkusen in January 2020. Tapsoba has been a mainstay at the back for the Bundesliga club, turning out 150 times while chipping in with seven goals and two assists. Meanwhile, the player has made his mark under Xabi Alonso, with Die Werkself rising to the top of the Bundesliga.

Tapsoba’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were keen on signing him in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, recent reports have linked him with Manchester United. But Chelsea will provide stiff competition to other Premier League outfits.

The Blues are in the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window. While their priority should be signing a striker, landing a top-class centre-forward midway through a season is unlikely. But Chelsea might still look to bolster the offensive unit this winter. Meanwhile, they are keen on signing a central defender.

Several candidates, including Ousmane Diomande, have thus emerged on Chelsea’s radar. They are also interested in Antonio Silva and Leny Yoro. But Edmond Tapsoba has now emerged as one of the top targets for Chelsea. But signing the 24-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen might not be straightforward.
