Chelsea and Newcastle United are among a host of sides keen on signing Rayan Cherki, with his Lyon contract expiring in 2025.
According to Tutto Juve, Chelsea and Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Rayan Cherki. The 20-year-old French midfielder will have a year left on his Lyon contract next summer. The French side are open to offers of €25 million for their young rising star.
Rayan Cherki has captured the imagination of many, especially Lyon fans. They will feel disappointed at the fact that the 20-year-old French midfielder will play elsewhere soon as the club continues to drain its top talents.
Lyon fans were utterly disappointed at the club’s decision to sell Bradley Barcola and Castello Lukeba during the summer. Cherki is one of those who have stuck around, possibly beyond everybody’s expectations.
Most of their fans widely expected Cherki to seal a big-money move elsewhere. The 20-year-old French midfielder had no shortage of interested clubs during the summer.
Real Madrid were closing in on him, as per some reports, with Florentino Perez personally taking an interest. The Spanish side were prioritising a move for Jude Bellingham. Considering the money they paid, the supremo might have put a move for Cherki on hold.
With a depreciating contract at Lyon that expires in 2025, the French giants might accept offers of around €25 million next summer. The report does not sufficiently point towards a January move, which may indicate the club’s willingness to keep him until the summer of 2024.
Chelsea and Newcastle United are now keen on the 20-year-old French midfielder and are keeping constant tabs on his situation. The Blues had reportedly opened negotiations but may have moved on to other targets as Todd Boehly led a fast-paced transfer window.
The Blues are still on the lookout for fresh talent, and Cherki will certainly suit their age criteria. The Lyon star has certainly impressed them in many ways and could follow Malo Gusto to Stamford Bridge if Chelsea are able to make a successful bid.

Cherki would suit their cause and make them a better team. The level at which Newcastle United are playing would suit the 20-year-old French midfielder for his future. Hence, the Magpies are thoroughly in the hunt and at the prices quoted, they will certainly fulfil Lyon’s criteria.
