Liverpool set to cool interest in Piero Hincapie

Liverpool will likely move on from Piero Hincapie, with Bayer Leverkusen demanding at least €50 million to sell him.

According to a report by Football Insider, Piero Hincapie might no longer be the subject of interest from Liverpool. The 21-year-old is also a target for several other high-profile clubs across Europe. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen will demand at least €50 million to part ways with the youngster.

Piero Hincapie is one of the best young defenders in the world. The Ecuadorian international spent most of his formative years in his homeland before moving to Argentina in 2020. But his spell with CA Talleres lasted only a year, with Bayer Leverkusen snapping him up in August 2021.

Since then, the 21-year-old has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Bundesliga. But Hincapie has barely featured this season due to a suspension and an injury, thus managing only 133 minutes of game time. However, the youngster’s stock remains high, with Liverpool showing interest in him.

Liverpool considered signing the highly-rated centre-back in the summer transfer window. But a move did not materialise, with Bayer Leverkusen keeping hold of the young defender. However, recent reports suggested that Liverpool might launch a bid to secure Hincapie’s services in 2024.

The Reds need a new centre-back, considering Joel Matip is closing in on the final phase of his career. In addition, Joe Gomez’s injury woes mean he is not a dependable figure for Liverpool. Hincapie was thus a viable target. But Liverpool will likely cool the interest in him. The update should come as a boost for his other suitors.

Recent reports have linked the 21-year-old with several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid. In addition, other outlets have pointed to Newcastle United being interested in him. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen will demand at least €50 million to part ways with the Ecuadorian international.

The Bundesliga giants have started the 2023/24 season well, with Hincapie likely to become a pivotal figure for them. So, Bayer Leverkusen’s stance of demanding at least €50 million makes sense. It will be interesting to see if any other suitor meets their valuation in 2024.
