Illia Voloshyn closing in on joining Real Madrid

Ukrainian goalkeeping sensation Illia Voloshyn is reportedly closing in on joining Real Madrid from Rayo Majadahonda this summer.

According to a report by Mario Cartegana for The Athletic, Illia Voloshyn is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. And the 16-year-old goalkeeping sensation is on the verge of joining Real Madrid. The teenage prodigy will likely turn out for the Juvenil B team after arriving from Spanish third-division side Rayo Majadahonda.

Illia Voloshyn is one of the best young prospects in Europe, coming leaps and bounds in the last few years. The Ukrainian whizkid has spent most of his formative years thus far in his homeland. But he moved to Spain last year, joining third-division outfit Rayo Majadahonda.

Since then, the 16-year-old has gone from strength to strength. And he stands out at a height of 6ft 5in, making him an imposing figure in the goal. Voloshyn also recently made his mark as Ukraine Under-16 beat Latvia Under-16 4-0. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Real Madrid.

The Merengues are renowned for constantly scouring the market for prodigious young prospects. Florentino Perez has driven the outlook in the last few years, enabling Real Madrid to ensure smooth transitions from one generation to the next. And it has helped Los Blancos land current first-team regulars like Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde, among others.

The Spanish giants have been active in the market for promising prospects this summer, like any other transfer window. They have shown interest in highly-rated prodigies like Izan Merino and Warren Zaire-Emery. And Illia Voloshyn is the latest wonderkid to emerge on Real Madrid’s radar.

The report by Mario Cortegana suggests that the 16-year-old goalkeeping sensation is closing in on joining Real Madrid. Voloshyn will likely sign a three-year contract with Real Madrid, the maximum possible for a player his age as per regulations.

In addition, the young goalkeeper will likely start with the Juvenil B (Under-18) team upon joining Real Madrid. And his arrival will help Los Blancos possibly secure Thibaut Courtois’s long-term successor if he makes the desired progress in La Fabrica.
