Sevilla and Barcelona are reportedly in advanced talks over a possible loan deal for Clement Lenglet, with Real Betis joining the race.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Clement Lenglet is the subject of interest from Real Betis. The Verdiblancos have joined local rival Sevilla in the race to sign the 28-year-old. Meanwhile, Los Nervionenses have advanced talks to sign the Barcelona outcast, with the Blaugrana looking to loan him out for two years.
Clement Lenglet has seen his career come to a stuttering halt in the last few seasons. While the Frenchman featured regularly for Tottenham Hotspur last season, he has not joined the North London club in a permanent deal. And the Premier League heavyweights have been considering moving on from the out-of-favour Barcelona defender.
As for the 28-year-old, he is keen on sorting out his future as soon as possible to resurrect his career. And recent reports have claimed that Barcelona’s stance over his departure might start softening. So, with a loan move possible, a few other clubs have joined the race to secure Lenglet’s services.
Reports in the last few days have suggested that the French international is the subject of interest from his former club, Sevilla. And the Andalusian giants face stiff competition from local rival Real Betis in the race to sign the Barcelona outcast before the summer transfer window shuts down.
Sevilla’s interest in Lenglet is intriguing, considering Jose Luis Mendilibar has several centre-backs in his squad. But Marcao and Tanguy Nianzou are on the sidelines due to fitness issues. So Sevilla will look to re-sign the Barcelona defender, with talks between Los Nervionenses and Barcelona advancing.
On the other hand, Real Betis can do with a centre-back despite signing Chadi Riad on loan from Barcelona. The Verdiblancos also have former Barcelona defender Marc Bartra in their squad. But with German Pezzella on the wrong side of 30, investing in another central defender is sensible.
Meanwhile, the report claims that Barcelona will look to loan the out-of-favour 28-year-old out for two seasons. And with Sevilla already advancing talks to re-sign Lenglet, it will be interesting to see if Real Betis can beat Los Nervionenses.
