Tottenham Hotspur might soon abandon the move to sign Clement Lenglet, with Barcelona looking to push him to Saudi Arabia.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Clement Lenglet might no longer be the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the coming days. The North London giants are exasperated by Barcelona’s unwavering valuation of the 28-year-old. And the Catalan giants are now looking to push him to move to Saudi Arabia.

Clement Lenglet is running out of time to secure a desired move for himself this summer. Since returning from a sub-par loan stint with Tottenham Hotspur, the Frenchman has come no closer to leaving Barcelona. That has been thanks in large part to Barcelona’s arguably high asking price of around €15 million. That is not to say that he has not attracted suitors.

Several Serie A clubs have shown interest in the 28-year-old. And Lenglet has also been the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, the North London club recently formulated an offer to sign him on a permanent deal. But with Barcelona not showing any inclination to reduce the asking price, the move has stalled.

Tottenham’s interest in Lenglet is perplexing, considering he did not set the stage alight in the 2022/23 season. But with Ben Davies on the wrong side of 30 and Japhet Tanganga facing an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Spurs can do with a centre-back to be backup to new signing Micky van de Ven.

The French international is thus a viable target. But considering Tottenham will likely use Lenglet as a backup centre-back, shelling out €15 million to sign him does not make sense. So it is hardly surprising that they are now considering moving on from securing his services this summer.

Meanwhile, Barcelona will be desperate to offload the 28-year-old to continue balancing the books. They have already parted ways with several fringe players to lighten their wage bill. And the Catalan giants are now looking to push him to move to Saudi Arabia, with talks with Al-Nassr on the horizon.

The Saudi Arabian giants have been busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing many well-known players over from Europe. And Lenglet can bolster their backline considerably. But it will be interesting to see if the Barcelona outcast is ready to move to Saudi Arabia this summer if the Tottenham move collapses.
