Sevilla will reportedly look to re-sign Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona before the summer transfer window shuts down.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Clement Lenglet is the subject of interest from Sevilla. The Andalusian giants want to re-sign the out-of-favour Barcelona defender. And they will look to secure his services in a loan deal for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Clement Lenglet has seen his career come to a grinding halt since his loan stint with Tottenham Hotspur ended. The 28-year-old made 35 appearances for the North London club last summer while chipping in with one goal and two assists. But the Barcelona outcast, who joined the Blaugrana in a deal worth €35.9 million, has been unable to find a new home in the ongoing transfer window.

The Frenchman does not feature in Xavi Hernandez’s plans for the 2023/24 season. And Barcelona will look to part ways with him in a permanent deal before the summer transfer window shuts down. But the Catalan club’s asking price has proven to be an issue for suitors thus far, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Widespread reports have linked the North London club heavily with the Barcelona outcast. But Tottenham’s inability to agree to a transfer fee has compelled them to walk away from a deal for Lenglet. But recent reports have suggested that a loan move might be on the cards if he does not leave in a permanent deal.

But instead of joining Tottenham on loan, Sevilla might secure Lenglet’s services in a similar arrangement. And they want to bring him back to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium for the remainder of the 2023/24 season. The deal seems to be in Barcelona’s interest, considering they cannot recoup anything close to the €35.9 million they paid to Sevilla five years ago.

The 28-year-old can theoretically resurrect his career in a familiar environment this season, which can help Barcelona raise the asking price next summer. And Sevilla and Barcelona are already in talks over a possible deal.

With less than a week remaining for the summer transfer window to shut down, time is running out for Barcelona. And Lenglet will also be eager to get his career back on track in the coming months. But it will be interesting to see if a loan move materialises in the next few days.
