Chelsea plotting late Raphinha, Ferran Torres swoop

Chelsea will look to sign Barcelona attacking duo Raphinha and Ferran Torres before the summer transfer window shuts down.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Ferran Torres and Raphinha feature on Chelsea’s radar over a possible late move in the ongoing transfer window. The Blues are scouring the market for offensive signings. And the Barcelona attacking duo has emerged on their radar ahead of Deadline Day.

Raphinha and Ferran Torres have blown hot and cold since joining Barcelona from Premier League clubs last year. Torres arrived at Camp Nou from Manchester City in a big-money deal in January 2022. On the other hand, Raphinha made his way to Barcelona after leaving Leeds United last summer.

Torres made a strong start to life as a Barcelona player but has seen his stock drop in the last 12 months. On the other hand, Raphinha had bouts of inconsistency in 2022/23. But he ended the campaign strongly and has become the first-choice right-winger. However, either or both player might leave Barcelona this summer as they continue to search for ways to balance their books.

The Barcelona attacking duo has no shortage of suitors, with several high-profile clubs showing interest in them this summer. And Chelsea might look to secure their services before the summer transfer window shuts down on Friday.

Raphinha has been on Chelsea’s radar for several months. And reports in June suggested Mauricio Pochettino wanted the West London club to sign the former Leeds United talisman. It seems Chelsea’s interest has reignited, and the Brazilian international has the qualities to become a game-changer on the right flank.

As for Torres, the Spanish international’s versatility should hold Chelsea in good stead. The former Manchester City attacker might have struggled to stamp his authority as a Barcelona player. But his previous experience in the Premier League might enable Torres to make his mark for Chelsea, either out wide or as a striker.

Reports last month suggested Barcelona might even be open to a loan-to-buy sale of Torres. And it will be interesting to see if Chelsea will approach the Blaugrana for Raphinha and Ferran Torres as we approach the final hours of the summer transfer window.
