Barcelona will happily accept a loan-to-buy deal for Ferran Torres, who does not feature in Xavi Hernandez’s plans for 2023/24.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Ferran Torres is surplus to requirements for Xavi Hernandez. But the decision-makers at FC Barcelona realise that a permanent deal might not be possible for the ongoing transfer window. And they will happily accept a loan-to-buy deal for the Spanish international.

Ferran Torres rose to prominence during his stint with Valencia, his boyhood club. But after a few years with Los Che’s first team, the 23-year-old moved to England, joining Manchester City. And despite being a rotation option for the Premier League champions, he produced impressive numbers at the Etihad.

But Torres wanted to become an undisputed first-choice starter at the club level and left Manchester City in a deal worth €55 million 18 months ago. But the move to Barcelona has not worked out as well as the Spanish international would have liked. And while he has featured 71 times thus far for Barcelona, he is a backup option for Xavi Hernandez.

The Spaniard’s tally of 14 goals and nine assists in 71 outings is also not too impressive. But Torres remains a highly-rated young attacker despite his struggles. And recent reports have linked with Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Arsenal. But the player has been defiant in his stance over a possible summer move.

Reports have particularly named Aston Villa as a destination he does not want for his next club. But other publications have suggested that he does not want to leave Barcelona, period. Meanwhile, the Blaugrana cannot hope to recoup anything close to €55 million from Torres’s sale.

So Barcelona will accept a loan-to-buy deal to part ways with the Spanish international. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old wants to impress Xavi during the pre-season campaign. And he hopes to reclaim his spot as a regular on the flanks by producing convincing performances in the friendlies.

But Barcelona’s stance over offloading Torres remains clear. The Spanish international does not feature in Xavi’s plans. So it might be best for him to leave Barcelona to resurrect his stuttering career in the 2023/24 season.
