Barcelona recently approached Ajax with a bid for Mohammed Kudus, valued at €40 million, in an initial loan deal this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Mohammed Kudus is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the Blaugrana approached Ajax with an offer to sign the Ghanaian international on an initial loan deal. The proposal also contained a mandatory purchase clause. But Ajax rebuffed the bid, with the player’s price tag being €40 million.

Mohammed Kudus has come leaps and bounds since joining Ajax from Nordsjaelland three years ago. The 23-year-old took some time to get going at the Dutch club but exploded with a prolific 2022/23 campaign. And he amassed 18 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances last season.

The Ghanaian international has also become a regular for his national team. Meanwhile, Kudus has started the 2023/24 season strongly, scoring once and providing one assist in two outings thus far. But the versatile attacker’s future is uncertain, with widespread reports linking him with a move away from Ajax. And he is also a target for Barcelona.

Recent reports have heavily linked the player with West Ham United. In addition, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have also shown interest in him this summer. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion had an agreement on the transfer fee with Ajax, only for Kudus to snub the Seagulls. But the emerging interest from Barcelona might change the equation.

The report claims that the Catalan giants have already approached Ajax with a bid to sign the 23-year-old. Barcelona offered an initial loan deal, with the proposal also containing an obligatory purchase clause. But Ajax did not pay much attention to Barcelona’s approach, rejecting them immediately.

The Dutch giants value the Ghanaian international at around €40 million. But Barcelona might not be able to afford to pay anywhere close to €40 million to secure Kudus’s services this summer due to the never-ending financial mess. Meanwhile, the player already has an agreement on personal terms with West Ham.

So a move to the London Stadium should be on the cards for the 23-year-old versatile attacker this summer. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can make a late move and turn Kudus’s head in the coming days.
