West Ham United might soon present a bid to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, a target for Arsenal and Chelsea.
According to a report by 90min, Elye Wahi is the subject of interest from West Ham United. And the Hammers have already contacted Montpellier while considering a bid to sign the young striker. The Frenchman is also a target for fellow London clubs Arsenal and Chelsea.
Elye Wahi has become one of the most highly sought-after players in France following his breakthrough season as a professional footballer. The French striker made his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in December 2020. But 2022/23 proved to be the season where he finally made his mark.
The 20-year-old was among the most productive performers in Ligue 1 last term. And Wahi amassed a tally of 19 goals and six assists in 33 appearances. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs setting their sights on him. And Arsenal, Chelsea, and West Ham United are among the most serious suitors.
Wahi has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time, with the North London club closely monitoring his progress. And the Gunners recently expressed their interest in the young Frenchman. And amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun, Arsenal can do with a centre-forward.
As for Chelsea, the Blues have been the most serious suitor pursuing Wahi’s signature this summer. Recent reports even pointed to Chelsea being in the pole position to secure his services in the ongoing transfer window. And with Nicolas Jackson being the only recognised striker in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, the Montpellier forward is a viable target.
But Arsenal and Chelsea face stiff competition from West Ham United. The Hammers recently joined the race to sign the 20-year-old from Montpellier. And they have now stepped up their efforts to sign the youngster, having already established contact. In addition, West Ham will likely table a bid to sign him soon.
With West Ham intensifying the efforts to sign Wahi, Arsenal and Chelsea need to step up. And with the competition for the Frenchman’s signature heating up, it will be interesting to see where he lands in the coming days.
