Mikel Arteta is keen on signing Elye Wahi, with Arsenal expressing interest in the Montpellier striker, a target for Chelsea.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal recently registered interest in signing Elye Wahi. The French striker is also a target for London rival Chelsea. And Montpellier will demand €40 million to part ways with the youngster in the ongoing transfer window.

Elye Wahi has become one of the most highly sought-after prospects in the market following his breakthrough campaign as a professional footballer. The 20-year-old spent his formative years with four clubs before graduating from the Montpellier Academy. And he made his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in December 2020.

Since then, Wahi has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a regular for Montpellier. And the Frenchman was among the most prolific customers in Ligue 1 last season, amassing 19 goals and six assists in 33 appearances. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea and Arsenal being his prospective suitors.

Wahi has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time, with the Gunners following him throughout this year. But they have not launched the offensive to secure his services, as Mikel Arteta has Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in his squad. But with Nketiah and Folarin Balogun facing uncertain futures at the Emirates, Arsenal can do with a striker.

In addition, Wahi will introduce a different dynamic to the Arsenal attack while adding goals galore. And the Gunners have now expressed their interest in the 20-year-old striker. Meanwhile, Arsenal will face stiff competition from Chelsea, with Montpellier demanding €40 million to sell him.

Widespread reports have claimed that Wahi is keen on joining Chelsea as soon as possible. But the Blues have struggled to seal an agreement with Montpellier. And recent reports have pointed to the French club rejecting a bid from Chelsea for the young Frenchman. With the West London club not coming any closer to the asking price of €40 million, it is anyone’s game.

Meanwhile, apart from Arsenal and Chelsea, Eintracht Frankfurt will also look to secure Wahi’s services. And it will be interesting to see if the Bundesliga club can beat the two Premier League outfits to his signature. But Montpellier will unlikely dither from the €40 million asking price.
