Chelsea are leading the chase for Elye Wahi as they are ready to make a concerted effort to sign the Montpellier frontman in the coming days.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea are frontrunners in the chase for Elye Wahi. The Montpellier striker has the interest of many clubs. Those include Frankfurt, PSG and some English sides, but the Blues may step up their chase and seal the transfer.

Chelsea are stepping up their game in the transfer market to make necessary signing as the window is fast shrinking. The Blues need a striker and a central midfielder foremost and have yet to make any strides in signing their top targets.

Moises Caicedo remains their primary objective, but they may have pivoted after lodging a £48 million offer for Romeo Lavia. Now, Liverpool are also in the hunt for the Brighton midfielder, which makes the race for the two midfielder a bit tangled.

Meanwhile, Chelsea needed a new striker right at the start of the summer and has yet to make any headway in determining their priority targets. The goalposts kept shifting throughout the window as several names got mentioned.

They had been close to signing off on a part-exchange deal with Juventus involving Romelu Lukaku and Dusan Vlahovic, but that deal seems off now. Fabrizio Romano confirmed Chelsea are no longer in the chase for the Serbian owing to Juventus’ huge asking price as part of the exchange.

Now, they are ready to step up their chase of Elye Wahi. The Montpellier striker had remained keen to join Chelsea since their interest became apparent. Yet, the hunt had gone quiet over the last few weeks, but the Blues are ready to rekindle their interest.

Montpellier had reportedly rejected an offer from Chelsea, who wanted to bring the 20-year-old and loan him straight to Strasbourg. The situation could change as the Blues view him as part of their first-team squad.

Whether that remains accurate remains the question, but Wahi, with his 19 goals last season, proved he’s worth the shot. Montpellier are not about to settle for a low fee and would demand a significant sum from suitors.

To their benefit, there are several parties interested in their 19-goal striker. PSG, Eintracht Frankfurt and some Premier League sides on top of Chelsea are keen. It could allow Montpellier to command a significant fee in return, and the Blues are willing to accelerate negotiations.

They can’t bring the striker before the Premier League’s opening weekend. Wahi will bring a different dimension to Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking options.
