Liverpool have reportedly outbid Chelsea in the race for Moises Caicedo after lodging a considerable offer, per a noted journalist.

Matt Law of the Telegraph insisted Liverpool outbid Chelsea for Moises Caicedo after lodging a big offer for the midfielder. The decision came after the Blues launched their own bid for Romeo Lavia, as moves for both midfielders may have a significant connection.

It”s been a tremendous 24 hours in the race for midfielders. Chelsea and Liverpool are at the forefront of another twist in the tale. Liverpool have been the front-runner for Romeo Lavia all this while but have shown reluctance to meet Southamptn’s £50 million asking price.

They saw a recent bid worth £46 million rejected by the Saints. Chelsea then lodged a £48 million offer late on Wednesday to add a new twist to the chase. The Blues have reportedly pivoted from the Moises Caicedo chase as they could not find a breakthrough with Brighton for the midfielder.

As per Matt Law of the Telegraph, Liverpool have taken turns chasing Chelsea’s primary midfield target. The journalist stated the Merseysiders had outbid the Londoners for the Ecuadorian by submitting a better offer.

Later on, Fabrizio Romano acknowledged Liverpool’s intent with Caicedo but stopped short of confirming the Reds had made the bid. Hence, the reports have conflicted, but Liverpool’s interest is there.

Many seem baffled by Liverpool’s reluctance to meet Southampton’s £50 million asking price and then chasing a midfielder valued well over £100 million by Brighton. The question remains how much of this is a possibility, but the race for the midfielder is undoubtedly picking up heat.

Meanwhile, Chelsea remains poised to make a new bid for Caicedo as Mauricio Pochettino seeks a top-draw midfielder. They have lofty ambitions to finalise the deal before their opening game against Liverpool on Sunday, but that does look unlikely.

Instead, Caicedo could likely start for Brighton in their season opener. Liverpool have presented themselves as an able contender if Matt Law’s report has any accuracy. Meanwhile, Chelsea are still in the running, either for the Ecuadorian or the Belgian.
