Mauricio Pochettino expects Chelsea to seal a summer move for Moises Caicedo despite Brighton & Hove Albion’s insistence on recouping £100 million from his sale.
According to a report by Football Insider, Moises Caicedo remains the subject of interest from Chelsea. And Mauricio Pochettino expects the West London club to seal the signing of the £100 million-rated midfielder. But they will likely present a bid worth £90 million to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Moises Caicedo has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League since joining Brighton & Hove Albion. The 21-year-old arrived from Independiente in February 2021 but needed some time to find his footing. And after a short-term loan spell with Beerschot in Belgium, he has not looked back.
The Ecuadorian international was a mainstay in the middle of the park for Brighton last season. And Caicedo has turned out over 50 times thus far for the Seagulls, chipping in with two goals and three assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting several high-profile clubs, including Chelsea.
The Blues are yet to sign a midfielder who can bolster the squad for the 2023/24 season. While Lesley Ugochukwu has arrived from Stade Rennais, he will likely join Chelsea’s sister club RC Strasbourg on loan for the upcoming campaign. And after parting ways with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, they need a top-class midfielder.
In addition, Conor Gallagher faces an uncertain future at Chelsea amid widespread interest in his services. So it behoves Chelsea to sign a midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. And Moises Caicedo has emerged as a viable target for the West London club. But reports have painted a contradictory picture of the stage of talks between Chelsea and Brighton.
Meanwhile, personal terms should not be an issue for Chelsea. But Brighton’s insistence on recouping £100 million from Caicedo’s sale has posed a problem for Chelsea. However, Mauricio Pochettino expects the West London club to seal the deal soon. And the Blues are preparing a bid worth £90 million to land their top target.
