Everton advance talks to sign Hugo Ekitike on loan from PSG

Everton will reportedly look to sign Hugo Ekitike on loan this summer, with PSG slapping a price tag of €35 million on him.

According to reputed German journalist Patrick Berger, Hugo Ekitike is the subject of interest from Everton. And the Toffees have advanced their discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over a loan deal for the 21-year-old. The young attacking prospect does not feature in PSG’s plans, with Les Parisiens slapping a price tag of €35 million on him.

Hugo Ekitike has seen his progress stutter after a sub-par 2022/23 campaign. The French striker joined Paris Saint-Germain on loan from Stade Reims following his breakthrough season as a professional footballer. But after finishing as one of the top scorers in Ligue 1 in 2021/22, his stock fell considerably last term.

The 21-year-old has turned out 32 times thus far for PSG while managing four goals and four assists. But he has not even managed 1,500 minutes of game time, with most of his outings coming off the bench. And while Ekitike has joined PSG permanently, he does not feature in Luis Enrique’s plans. Such a situation has captured the attention of several clubs.

Recent reports have linked Ekitike with West Ham United and Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, there have been suggestions that PSG might offer the young Frenchman as a makeweight in the deal to sign Randal Kolo Muani. And he has now emerged as a target for Everton.

The Toffees ensured survival in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth last season. And failure to consistently find the back of the net was one of the reasons for their struggles. So it behoves Everton to invest in a striker this summer. And they are on the verge of signing Youssef Chermiti.

But Chermiti is in his nascent years and might not feature regularly. Ekitike has thus emerged as a viable target for Everton. And the Toffees have advanced talks with PSG over a loan-to-buy deal. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 champions have slapped a price tag of €35 million on the French striker’s head.
