West Ham United eyeing Hugo Ekitike swoop

West Ham United will look to sign Hugo Ekitike from PSG, with the Hammers already expressing their interest in the 21-year-old prospect.

According to a report by French outlet RMC Sport, Hugo Ekitike is the subject of interest from West Ham United. And the Hammers have expressed their interest in the 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain striker. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 champions are open to cashing in on the young attacking prospect this summer.

Hugo Ekitike was one of the breakout stars of the 2021/22 season. The young Frenchman was in excellent form for much of the campaign, often scoring goals for fun. So it was hardly surprising that the promising striker captured the attention of several clubs last summer. And Paris Saint-Germain won the race to sign him ahead of the 2022/23 season.

PSG signed the 21-year-old on an initial loan deal before completing a permanent move this summer. But the young attacking prospect has not had a good time thus far at Parc des Princes. Ekitike has not even managed 1,500 minutes of game time, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 32 outings.

Ekitike’s future has been uncertain heading into the summer transfer window. And widespread reports have claimed that PSG might be open to cashing in on the French striker. The report by Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport corroborates that. And the well-known journalist has claimed that West Ham United will look to sign him this summer.

The Hammers are the only Premier League club yet to sign a player in the summer transfer window. That is despite recouping over £100 million by selling Declan Rice. And they have spent a lot of time chasing a small group of targets, with James Ward-Prowse topping the list. Meanwhile, a striker has not been atop West Ham’s agenda this summer.

But with Gianluca Scamacca likely to leave amid links with AS Roma and Inter Milan, West Ham will have to delve into the market. In addition, Michail Antonio might end his long stint with West Ham this summer. So it behoves the East London club to secure the services of a young striker, with Danny Ings the only other option at David Moyes’s disposal.

Hugo Ekitike is thus a viable target for West Ham. And the Hammers have expressed their interest in the PSG striker. But Les Parisiens are considering using the 21-year-old attacking prospect as a makeweight in the deal to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt. So it will be interesting to see if West Ham can beat the competition to the youngster’s signature this summer.
