Kyle Walker is closing in on signing a new contract at Manchester City to prolong his career at the club and snub Bayern Munich.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Kyle Walker may have agreed to sign a new contract with Manchester City and kill off speculation surrounding his future. The 33-year-old right-back had links to Bayern Munich, but now he might keep playing under Pep Guardiola.

Kyle Walker could become the latest player to reject the overtures of Bayern Munich, which sums up a disappointing window for Thomas Tuchel. The Bavarians were being linked with moves for several Premier League stars. Those included Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and David Raya, but signed neither.

They had been open with their interest in Walker since the window officially opened. The 33-year-old, for his part, may have expressed an interest in joining them and taking a new step in his career. Many had thought the high of winning the treble with Man City last season could have turned his mind towards a new challenge.

Man City have remained quiet on the situation, but Pep Guardiola’s recent comments showed the 33-year-old and Bernardo Silva’s importance. The Catalan said, “Regarding Kyle and Bernardo. They’re important players for us. We want them to stay. We will do everything. To replace these two players is incredibly difficult.”

Reports suggested Bayern had secured verbal agreement with Walker. Meanwhile, Man City were then expected to bring Benjamin Pavard as a replacement. Those rumours ended with the imminent news about the right back close to agreeing on a new deal.

With limited time left in the window to find a replacement, Man City did not feel Walker had lost his touch in the game despite his age. The club have presented the 33-year-old with a new deal, and Walker is now close to signing it.

It’s good news for Guardiola in his efforts to have a strong squad for the upcoming season. Having Walker gives him a solid presence on the right side. The Catalan will also look to sell Joao Cancelo. The England international has had a central role during all these years and will now continue.

As for Bayern, they are set to face another disappointment in this window. The Harry Kane deal also hangs in the balance, and there’s no clarity on who their next set of transfer targets are for this market.
