Kyle Walker is reportedly closing in on a move away from Manchester City this summer, with Bayern Munich chasing him.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City are currently in talks with Bayern Munich regarding the future of Kyle Walker. And the Bundesliga giants are reportedly closing in on a €20-30 million deal for the England international.

Walker has been a key player for Manchester City since joining the club from Tottenham, helping them win most trophies at club level. He was linked with Real Madrid earlier this summer. However, he is 33 now and is unlikely to get better in the coming seasons. It makes sense for Manchester City to cash in on him and invest in a quality young defender.

Pep Guardiola has introduced ruthless competition at the club over the years, which has allowed Manchester City to compete at the highest level consistently. The Premier League champions continue to build for the future, and the time is right for Walker to move on.

The England international has shown glimpses of vulnerability this past season, and he has been left out at times as well. Instead of falling out of favour at the Premier League club and sitting on the bench, it is better for the 33-year-old to move to a new club where he will get ample game time.

Bayern Munich need a specialist right-back, and the 33-year-old could prove to be a useful option. Walker was outstanding against world-class wingers like Vinicius Junior this past season, and he has the ability to succeed in the Bundesliga and develop into an indispensable asset for the German club.

The England international has already proven himself in the Premier League and will look to make his mark in the Bundesliga now. And it looks like the Manchester City veteran is closing in on joining Bayern Munich in a deal worth €20-30 million.

Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the opportunity to join them in the twilight stages of his career will be difficult to turn down for Walker. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can finalise an agreement in the coming weeks.

Despite winning the league title on the final day of the season, it was a dismal campaign for a club of Bayern Munich’s standards. So they will be hoping to bounce back strongly. They will want to do well in the Champions League next season, and players like Walker will certainly help them improve.
