Aston Villa will reportedly be happy to trigger the release clause worth £25 million to sign Tyler Adams, a target for Chelsea.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Tyler Adams is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. And the Villans are ready to shell out £25 million, the value of his release clause, to secure his services this summer. Meanwhile, the Leeds United midfielder is also a target for fellow Premier League club Chelsea.

Tyler Adams is a native of New York and spent most of his formative years in his homeland. The USMNT international progressed through the ranks at New York Red Bulls before becoming a regular for the MLS club. But his stock skyrocketed after joining RB Leipzig in January 2019.

The 24-year-old was a regular for RB Leipzig and spent three and a half years in the Bundesliga before joining Leeds United last summer. And he was a solid performer in his 26 appearances for the Whites. But Adams could not help the West Yorkshire club avoid relegation from the Premier League.

However, the American midfielder will unlikely ply his trade in the Championship, with several high-profile clubs ready to sign him. And Aston Villa and Chelsea are reportedly vying for Adams’s signature. It has now emerged that the player’s contract with Leeds United contains a release clause worth £25 million.

The presence of a release clause, possibly one that activates in the scenario of relegation, makes the 24-year-old an attractive target for his suitors. And the report by Daily Mail has claimed that Aston Villa will happily shell out £25 million to land him. However, it is unclear how he will fit into the scheme of things following the arrival of Youri Tielemans. Nonetheless, he remains a target for Aston Villa.

As for Chelsea, the Blues are ready to invest in a midfielder following the departures of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. In addition, widespread reports have linked Conor Gallagher with a move away from Stamford Bridge. So Tyler Adams is a viable target for Chelsea this summer.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will also be ready to fork out £25 million to sign Adams. But it seems Aston Villa will make the first move to land the USMNT international. And he should return to the Premier League in the coming days as we approach the end of the summer transfer window.
