Rasmus Hojlund has ‘promised himself’ to Manchester United, with the 16-goal Atalanta star keen to join Erik ten Hag’s side this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Rasmus Hojlund is keen to join Manchester United this summer over other suitors. Atalanta’s high asking price has fended off most parties, but the Red Devils remain in the chase with the optimism of concluding a deal for the Danish forward.

Manchester United fans must have been familiar with Rasmus Hojlund by now. Not only does his name has a familiar ring to Erling Haaland, but many believe he could become the Red Devil’s answer to the Norwegian.

They are keen to sign the 20-year-old from Atalanta, but the move seems to have hit multiple complications. Atalanta kept raising their asking price, and some reports claimed they wanted as much as £86 million for the 16-goal star. Those numbers are from his whole season, including his games for Strum Graz.

The idea of a massive transfer fee has deterred Manchester United from pursuing deals for top targets Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen. If they are to pay something similar for Hojlund, it will make more sense to walk away and look at alternatives.

Yet, Manchester United remain confident of sealing the deal for £50 million or under. The Red Devils have already agreed on personal terms with the striker, but that’s also the first step of any transfer deal.

Personal terms are not detrimental to any transfer, as the key part is the agreement on the fee between the two clubs. Manchester United and Atalanta are nowhere near that, but talks are expected to accelerate once the Red Devils finalise a move for Andre Onana.

There are reports of Manchester United offering Mason Greenwood in part exchange. The news came about amid Atalanta’s links to the beleaguered forward. However, that’s unlikely to happen as the Serie A giants are keen on Almeria’s El-Bilal Toure, but any deal will depend on Hojlund’s sale.

The Danish striker has ‘promised himself’ to Manchester United, thus indicating he’s keen on the move to Ten Hag’s side. It will boost the club’s confidence, but much will depend on how much Atalanta asks in return.

Manchester United don’t seem flush with cash this time and may have to depend on some sales to sign a new striker. Alternatively, they might have a strict number to spend on a new forward and may walk away if Atalanta continues to ask for absurd money for the 20-year-old Danish star.
