Tottenham Hotspur and Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly in contact over a deal for Piero Hincapie, whose price tag is €25-30 million.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, Piero Hincapie is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. And the North London giants are in contact with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal for the South American defender. The Bundesliga club will demand €25-30 million to sell him in the summer transfer window.

Piero Hincapie has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga since joining Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Independiente del Valle youth division. But he rose to prominence at CA Talleres before moving to Germany in August 2021.

The Ecuadorian international has come leaps and bounds in the last two years, becoming a mainstay at the back for Bayer Leverkusen. And Hincapie has turned out 76 times thus far for Die Werkself while chipping in with three goals and two assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham Hotspur among his prospective suitors.

Widespread reports have linked Tottenham with Hincapie since the January transfer window. And the North London giants remain keen on signing the South American defender, although they are prioritising other centre-backs. Meanwhile, the eagerness to bolster the backline is understandable after a horrendous 2022/23 season.

Tottenham shipped in a whopping 63 goals in the Premier League last season. So new manager Ange Postecoglou wants to revamp the defensive unit and has demanded a more reliable partner for Cristian Romero. Micky van de Ven has thus emerged as a top target, with Tottenham already making an offer to sign him.

But van de Ven’s signature is not set in stone, meaning the Premier League heavyweights are keeping their options open. Max Kilman is thus one of the alternatives they have maintained contacts for. And Hincapie also features on Tottenham’s radar. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen will demand €25-30 million to part ways with the 21-year-old.

Tottenham should be in a position to shell out €25-30 million to sign the South American defender. But with Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven being the top targets, a move for Hincapie will likely remain on the back burner for the foreseeable future.
