Barcelona should soon have an agreement on personal terms with Oriol Romeu, who wants to join the reigning La Liga champions.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Oriol Romeu is a step closer to joining Barcelona. The 31-year-old has given the green light to complete a move in the ongoing transfer window. But sealing an agreement with Girona will be complicated for the reigning La Liga champions.

Oriol Romeu has established himself as one of the most hard-working midfielders in La Liga after returning to his homeland last summer. The experienced midfielder joined Girona, ending a seven-year stint with Southampton. And he took no time to become a regular for the White and Reds.

The 31-year-old has made 34 appearances thus far for Girona while chipping in with two goals. But Romeu’s stint with the Catalan club will likely end after just one season amid emerging interest in his services. And Barcelona will look to re-sign the player in the ongoing transfer window.

The Spaniard spent most of his formative years in Barcelona’s famed La Masia Academy. But after making just two appearances for Barcelona, he embarked on an adventure in England. The Catalan giants have now come calling for Romeu’s services several years after his first spell ended.

The Blaugrana had several midfielders on the wishlist of targets to bolster the midfield unit. But most of the candidates are beyond Barcelona’s miserly budget for the ongoing transfer window. Romeu’s name has thus emerged as the priority option to reinforce the Barcelona midfield this summer.

The reigning La Liga champions have already been in contact with Romeu’s entourage. And the 31-year-old is keen on rejoining Barcelona, with personal terms unlikely to be an issue. So he has given the green light for Barcelona to begin the discussions over a possible move this summer.

But convincing Girona to part ways with the experienced midfielder will be a tall order for Barcelona. The White and Reds have been unimpressed by Barcelona’s tactics to poach Romeu this summer. So they might make it tough for the reigning La Liga champions to see through the deal.
