Thomas Partey has asked to leave Arsenal

Ivory Coast midfielder Thomas Partey is keen to leave Arsenal following a memorable 2022/23 campaign

According to Football Transfers, midfield star Thomas Partey has informed Premier League giants Arsenal of his intentions to call it quits at The Emirates this summer.

The Gunners fell short of their quest to win the Premier League title last season. This has sparked the Gunners into a wild frenzy as far as recruitment is considered this summer. Kai Havertz has already joined from Chelsea while a club record fee for Declan Rice has been agreed.

Their arrival should limit Partey’s playtime next season and will put his first XI spot in threat. The player is aware of it and isn’t ready to play second fiddle to any new players. Rather than stay and fight for his spot, the veteran has asked the Gunners to help him find a new club.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reluctantly acceded to his player’s request but will only sanction a sale if the right offer comes in. Doing so will permit the Gunners to reinvest the amount back into the playing squad, preferably to add further strength and depth to the senior roster.

As things stand, Partey is attracting attention from the middle east and also Italian giants Juventus. However, neither side have made an offer and it remains to be seen if one is forthcoming.

Partey moved to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 but hasn’t quite made the intended impact at The Emirates. At 30, he isn’t getting any younger and now is the right time for Arsenal to cash in on him. As long as a reasonable offer comes in, an amicable goodbye could be on the cards.

The Gunners are far from done in the summer transfer window. They continue to be linked to Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. The former would add to a blockbuster midfield pairing alongside Rice while the latter is an excellent prospect with a high ceiling.

Whether a pursuit for either player is dependent on Partey’s departure remains to be seen. The coming weeks should make the stance clear one way or another.
