Arsenal have signed Kai Havertz on a long-term contract from Chelsea in a £65 million deal, including add-ons.

Arsenal have made an official statement to confirm they have secured the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea on a long-term contract. The Gunners are expected to pay £65 million, including add-ons, for the 24-year-old German international, who becomes their first signing of this window.

Arsenal has taken quick steps to secure their first signing of the summer with Kai Havertz. The German international sprung up on their shortlist rather surprisingly last week. And since then, the Gunners have been on the case.

Arsenal were not deterred by Chelsea’s potential £70-75 million asking price. Not many valued him at that rate, but the Gunners reached a compromise of around £65 million to get the player on board. David Ornstein was on top of the news and broke two important updates.

The second one was more crucial, as he more or less confirmed the size of the deal and that personal terms were already in place. Havertz will join Arsenal in a long-term contract, with the Gunners paying £60 million plus another £5 million in add-ons.

It is a sensible deal for both parties, and the swiftness to agree on a move deserves credit. Chelsea had rejected Arsenal’s initial offer earlier, but the two London giants have held progressive, healthy talks to get it over the line this quickly.

Many feel the fee Arsenal are paying is more than necessary, but Mikel Arteta won’t fuss too much about it. In fairness, there are barely any 24-year-olds with Premier League and Champions League experience. When they come into the market, clubs must pounce on such opportunities, which is what Arsenal did.

Similarly, Manchester United are also on the case for Mason Mount. Chelsea rejected a second offer on Wednesday, as talks between the clubs could continue. Meanwhile, Arsenal will now move on to secure their second signing, who could be Declan Rice from West Ham.

The Gunners are expected to lodge a third offer for the West Ham star. They are also chasing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber while there are heavy links to Southampton star Romeo Lavia. As for the Havertz signing, Arteta has secured a top player who could flourish in this fluid Gunners setup.
