Barcelona recently approached Joao Cancelo and Manchester City to ascertain a possible move in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Joao Cancelo has become a top target for Barcelona. The Catalan giants have approached the Portuguese international and Manchester City over a possible move in the summer transfer window. And a new round of talks will soon take place between the parties.

Joao Cancelo will soon leave Manchester City to embark on a new adventure in the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old does not feature in Pep Guardiola’s plans after a few run-ins with the former Barcelona manager. In addition, Bayern Munich will not sign him permanently ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Portuguese international has turned out over 150 times for Manchester City, chipping in with nine goals and 22 assists. But with Cancelo’s stint with Manchester City ending, he has likely played his last game for the club. And the multi-time Premier League winner’s situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Cancelo’s name has featured prominently on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. And recent reports have suggested that the Catalan giants are the best-placed club to sign him. Meanwhile, the interest in the former Juventus full-back is hardly surprising, considering the long-standing right-back issues.

The newly-crowned La Liga champions have struggled to find stability in the right-back berth for nearly a decade. Many have tried and failed to be the long-term right-back solution for Barcelona. But the situation has been so dire that Xavi Hernandez had to utilise Jules Kounde, a centre-back, as a right-back this past season.

But Joan Laporta has already asserted that Barcelona will look to end the issue for good this summer. And they have approached Manchester City and Cancelo’s representatives over a possible move in the upcoming window. Meanwhile, the PL champions aim to offload the 29-year-old as soon as possible.
